Using The CIA without our Software Package

How to configure Windows95, Quickly and Easily

The first thing you need to do is set up an Account with The CIA.

Once this is done, assuming you have a web browser and a mail client to start off with, there is nothing holding you back from getting online as soon as your online signup has cleared our computer.

Starting with the Networking Control Panel

  1. Go to the start button on the lower left hand corner of the screen.
  2. Choose Settings then choose Control Panels.
  3. Choose Networking from the Control Panels window.
  4. The Window on the right should pop open.

Now, scroll through the options in the window. Make sure that both Dial Up Adapter and TCP/IP are listed.

If DialUp Adapter is not listed:

  1. Click Add.
  2. Double click Adapter from the window that opens
  3. Choose your modem's manufacturer from the left hand side of the new window (if your modem's manufacturer is not listed, choose the Have Disk button, and use the disk that came packaged with your modem)
  4. Choose Adapter from the right hand side of the same window
  5. Click Okay

If TCP/IP is not listed:

  1. Click Add
  2. Choose Protocol from the widow that opens
  3. Choose Microsoft from the left hand side of the window that opens
  4. Choose TCP/IP from the right hand side of the same window
  5. Click Okay

The next step is to configure TCP/IP.
