MineMaster Version 0.1
The Game
This is the familiar game of finding the hidden bombs.
- Picking a safe square reveals a number indicating the
number of bombs in the surrounding squares. If the square
has no bombs on its boundary, all its boundary squares
(obviously all safe) are automatically picked. Under
the current scoring system, each safe square uncovered
earns one point.
- A bomb is indicated by a red square.
Hitting a bomb doesn't end the game, but it subtracts
10 points from your score.
- If you figure out that a certain square is a bomb, you
may mark it by clicking your right mousebutton over the
square. This will cause a magenta-colored marker with
criss-crossed lines to appear. This locks the box,
preventing it from being picked accidentally. A
second click of the right mouse button will revert the
box back to blue and hence playable.
Modes of Play
The motivation of this particular version is to break
the game away from the "race against time" mode of play,
such as that of the most familar version of this game,
that is, "Minesweeper", which has come free with
MS Windows for a long time.
In fact, for this initial version, I have included no
timer. My hope is that more people will enjoy the
game for the logical and probabilistic puzzles it
presents. I would hope that this might encourage
various modes of competitive play.
For the fun of it, I implemented various target
sizes. This mode can changed while the game is
in progress.
Try different "number of bombs" selections
to find the right level of difficulty for yourself.
The Future
Currently the game is pretty plain. Functional
but with lots of possibilities. The grid is currently
hardcoded to 20x10. No timers, bells or whistles,
but this is only a start.
Finally
Please let me know if you find any bugs.
Feedback is always welcome.
